Eggs have gotten a bad rap in the past. They are actually very healthy for you. Eggs are one of the most nutritious foods you can eat! They can help with your eye site and even weight loss! Everything (even healthy foods) should be eaten in moderation of course, if you start eating a dozen eggs a day, yes, you will probably have an increase in cholesterol.
Try to eat Omega-3 Enriched eggs which are pasteurized instead of regular factory produced eggs. I like to purchase Cage Free Organic eggs. My favorite eggs are the ones I can get straight from a farm or from friends who raise their own chickens.
“Eggs contain all 9 essential amino acids, are highly concentrated with vitamins and minerals and are among the best sources of choline you can get. Omega-3 enriched or pastured eggs are best.” – from Why Are Eggs Good For You?
Eggs can even help in weight loss. I know for me, a hardboiled egg is a satisfying snack. Way more nutritious than a bag of chips or a cookie. I like to hard boil 4 – 6 eggs on Monday so I have them for snacks for the week.
More from the article I will link at the bottom of this post:
“Eggs score high on a scale called the satiety index, which means that eggs are particularly capable of making you feel full and eat fewer overall calories (12).
Eggs only contain trace amounts of carbohydrates, which means that they will not raise blood glucose levels.
In a study of 30 overweight or obese women that ate either a bagel or eggs for breakfast, the egg group ended up eating less during lunch, the rest of the day and for the next 36 hours (13).
In another study, overweight men and women were calorie-restricted and given either a breakfast of 2 eggs (340 kcal) or an isocaloric breakfast of bagels. After 8 weeks, the egg eating group had a (14):
61% greater reduction in BMI.
65% more weight loss.
34% greater reduction in waist circumference.
16% greater reduction in body fat.
These results were found even though both breakfasts contained the same number of calories”
Unless you are Vegan, and I can respect that, eggs are a wonderful addition to a healthy nutrient filled diet.
